It appears the Samoa-born David Smith won't be able to play for France in the Six Nations rugby competition.

Smith was called into the squad as an injury replacement, but his appearance for the New Zealand's Sevens team in 2008 will rule him out.
France had hoped he would be eligible through residency.
Smith, who played for the Hurricanes, Blues and Western Force in Super Rugby, has been playing in France since 2011.
AFP says Smith's outing for New Zealand rules him out of contention.
