Batting first the Black Caps made 289-7 in their 50 over with Neil Broom (79), Ross Taylor (52) and George Worker (50) all scoring half-centuries.

A century to Irish batsman Niall O'Brien (108) kept the home side in the run chase but Santner's return to the bowling crease in the closing stages, swung the match back New Zealand's way.

He finished with 5-51 and was named player of the match.

Allrounder Scott Kuggeleijn, took 3-41 on debut while pace bowler Seth Rance, who was also on debut, took 1-44.

New Zealand's next game is against Bangladesh on Wednesday.
