The ACT Brumbies player Matt Giteau has got off lightly with a $6500 fine for criticising referee Steve Walsh's performance, when compared to NBA basketballer Dwight Howard who's been fined $50,000 for a similar offence.

The Orlando Magic centre criticised the referees on his private blog, after consistently finding himself in foul trouble during the Magic's opening round playoff series win over Charlotte.

Giteau was fined for complaining about Walsh's performance in the Brumbies loss to the New South Wales Waratahs adding it wouldn't be worth them turning up for this weekend's match against the Queensland Reds if Walsh was in charge.

Last week Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy and player Matt Barnes also were fined $50-thousand for criticising officials.
