The end-of-year rugby league Test match between Australia and Tonga is reportedly close to being given the green light, with an announcement expected next week.
NRL boss Todd Greenberg met with New Zealand rugby legue chief executive Greg Peters and chairman Cameron McGregor in Sydney on Wednesday to broker a deal for the historic match in Auckland to go ahead, the Daily Telegraph reports.
New Zealand representatives were reportedly keen to block the Australian-Tonga fixture, slated for October 20, due to fears it would impact crowd numbers for Kiwis match against the Kangaroos the week earlier.
