The Australian marathon swimmer John Van Wisse will make an attempt on the English Channel triple crossing record this week.
The record of 28 hours and 21 minutes is held by New Zealand's Phillip Rush and was set in 1987.
Van Wisse, who completed a single crossing in 1994, is in Dover, in south-east England, waiting for the best conditions to make the attempt.
The first triple crossing was in 1981 but the most recent was 20 years ago.
