The Black Caps have won the two Test series against England one-nil after the second Test in Hamilton ended in a draw.

The final day at Seddon Park was brought to a premature end as the wild weather affecting large parts of the country bared down on Hamilton.

Before the rain set in, Black Caps captain Kane Williamson brought up his 21st Test century, while Ross Taylor brought up his 19th Test century two overs later.

New Zealand were 241 for two in their second innings, with a lead of 140, when the players were brought off the field.

The Black Caps won the first match of the series at Bay Oval by an innings and 65 runs.

Yesterday, a double century to England skipper Joe Root, who made 226, guided England to 476 giving them a 101 run first innings lead, with Neil Wagner the most successful of the New Zealand bowlers taking five wickets.

England then grabbed two early wickets removing both Black Cap openers.

Jeet Raval was given out LBW for a duck, but hotspot replays clearly show he hit the ball although Raval bizarrely didn't seek a review.

First innings century maker Tom Latham was the other wicket to fall. He made 18.

First Test recap

New Zealand won the first Test at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui by an innings and 65 runs.

England won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a first innings total of 353 all out across a day and a half.

Ben Stokes top scored for the visitors with 91 runs while Tim Southee took 4-88 off 32 overs for the hosts.

In New Zealand's innings, wicketkeeper batsman BJ Watling posted his highest Test score (205) while all-rounder Mitchell Santner brought up his maiden Test century to help the Black Caps post a total of 615-9. England's top bowler was Sam Curran with figures of 3-119 off 35 overs.

England trailed the Black Caps by 263 runs heading into their second innings, with a little of a day left in the match.

Time was not on the visitors side and the pressure of the clock showed almost immediately as Santner, who had just brought up his century an hour before, skittled three of England's batsmen before the end of day four.

On day five, however, it was Neil Wagner's time to bring down England's wall, the menacing bowler took England's wall down batsman by batsman over the course of the day, ending up with figures of 5-44 off 19.2 overs to help secure a comfortable victory for New Zealand.

The aftermath

While an utterly poor performance by England, the criticisms from the match were levelled at the fans after it was revealed on Twitter by pace bowler Jofra Archer that he had been racially abused by a fan after he lost his wicket in the second innings.

The fan hasn't been found yet, but New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White personally drove to Hamilton to apologise to Archer and said that if the person is found, they will banned for life from attending cricket matches and referred to police.

Both teams have condemned the fan's actions, with England team director Ashley Giles saying the squad has rallied around the bowler ahead of the upcoming Test.

What's different about the second Test

New Zealand's win didn't come without consequences for the Black Caps - both strike bowler Trent Boult and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme picked up injuries and have been ruled out of the second Test so they can recover for the upcoming Test series against Australia.

Northern Districts all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has replaced de Grandhomme in the side, while Boult's replacement will likely come from within the squad, with Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson waiting in the wings.

England, meanwhile, will be without their coach, Chris Silverwood, due to a family bereavement.
