New skipper for Northern Stars
Silver Ferns shooter Maia Wilson has been named captain of the Northern Stars for this year's ANZ Premiership.
Wilson is the last remaining foundation player left on the Stars roster and assumes the captaincy after being part of the leadership group last year.
"I've got a lot of love for this franchise and to be the last OG standing along with some of our management is massive," Wilson said.
"I feel like my job now is to input that culture and foundation we have at the Stars and get everybody else on board. We've got a pretty cruisy group of women and it's going to be great, so hopefully they're on board that waka and we can get some wins on the board."
New signings Gina Crampton and Anna Harrison will join Wilson in the Stars leadership group, with midfielder Crampton making the move north from the Southern Steel and defender Harrison coming out of retirement having last played for the Northern Mystics in 2018.
Sixth trophy in nine months for Bayern
Bayern Munich have beaten Mexico's Tigres UANL 1-0 thanks to Benjamin Pavard's winner on the hour to win the Club World Cup title and earn their sixth trophy in less than nine months.
Pavard scored in the 59th minute following a VAR review and in front of around 12,000 spectators allowed into Education City Stadium in Qatar, after Tigres keeper Nahuel Guzman had stopped a Robert Lewandowski header.
The Germans, who also twice hit the woodwork, won all domestic and European titles they competed for in 2020 and are the first team to match Barcelona's sextuple from 2009.
It was also Bayern coach's Hansi Flick's sixth trophy since he took over in November 2019.
Bayern's second Club World Cup title after 2013 means European clubs have now won the last eight consecutive finals.

The 39-year-old double world champion is due to make his Formula One comeback this season after two years out of the sport.
"Fernando is conscious and well in himself and is awaiting further medical examinations tomorrow morning," an Alpine team statement said.
Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper reported earlier that the Spaniard had been hit by a car while training on his bike near Lugano and was taken to hospital.
The Gazzetta reported that initial X-rays suggested possible fractures and questioned whether Alonso would be able to start the season.

Wellington Blaze advance to another final
Defending women's champions the Wellington Blaze have kept their four-peat dream alive by beating the Auckland Hearts by 35 runs in the elimination final at Eden Park Outer Oval.
Third qualifiers after the regular season, Blaze turned the tables on the Hearts, who four days earlier had turned in a magnificent performance with the ball to beat them by just seven runs, in their final game of the regular season.
This time around, however, it was a comfortable victory for the star-studded Blaze, set up by an unbeaten half century (54* off 44 balls) from White Fern Amelia Kerr in a first innings total of 150 for six, after captain Maddy Green had elected to bat.
The Blaze then restricted Auckland for just 115/7 after Sophie Devine bowled Anna Peterson with the first ball of their run chase.
Wellington will now meet top qualifiers the Canterbury Magicians in the grand final at the Basin Reserve early on Saturday afternoon.
The Canterbury Kings will meet the Wellington Firebirds in the men's final that follows.
Mixed results for NZ doubles players in Melbourne
New Zealand tennis player Marcus Daniell and his Austrian playing partner Philip Oswald have made an impressive start to their men's doubles campaign at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
They have beaten the French pair of Adrian Mannarino and Giles Simon 6-4 6-2 in 1 hour and 3 minutes in the last match of the day on court 16.
Daniell and Oswald were dominant on serve and converted three of their five break point chances while they didn't face a break point against them.
Fellow New Zealander Artem Sitak and his British partner Jonny O'Mara have been beaten 6-4 6-4 by the 5th seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury
It was a tight match but a break in each set was enough for the American British combination.
New Zealand's top ranked doubles player Michael Venus and his Australian partner John Peers are back on court on Friday for their second-round match against Korean wildcards Min-Kyu Song and Ji Sung Nam for a place in the third round for the second straight year.
Another top five result for NZ golfer
New Zealand golfer Michael Hendry has finished third in the Australasian Tour's Moonah Links PGA Classic in Victoria.
He has closed with a three-under 69 to finish 16-under par for the tournament, two shots behind the winner, Bryden Macpherson.
It follows on from Hendry finishing in a share of fifth place at the Victorian PGA Championship earlier this month.
Macpherson carded a sizzling eight-under 64 in his final round to finish a shot clear of fellow Australian Justin Warren.
Daniel Hillier finished the next best of the New Zealanders in a share of 11th place at 10-under par.
