After winning a race each to start the regatta on Wednesday, Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa again shared honours out on the Hauraki Gulf on Friday.

The results left the scores level at 2-2 in the first to seven wins series, with racing for the oldest trophy in international sport scheduled to continue on Saturday.

Day two was raced in lighter breezes, with the Italians using their preference for those conditions and priority entry to the start box to get away in front and win race one by 37 seconds.

But it was Team New Zealand who had start box priority for race two, and did the same, getting off the line first and continually pulling away to comfortably win by one minute and three seconds.

All four races in the regatta had been won by the team winning the start.

Team New Zealand sailor Blair Tuke says they were happy with their efforts on day two.

"Our boat was going well, even in the first race, we just couldn't get clear and they kept on [tacking] right on us and we didn't get much fresh air.

"In the second race, we obviously got in front and the boat was going good again. Your free to look up the course and pick the [wind] shifts on your terms a bit more.

"A really good bounce back from the guys."

Despite finishing the day on a losing note, Luna Rossa co-helmsman Jimmy Spithill was also fairly satisfied with how they had performed.

Spithill said both teams deserved credit for a good day of racing, adding it still wasn't clear for him whether the priority entry into the start box was as big an advantage as it appeared.

"I'm not sure. I think we're still learning.

"I'm still not convinced it's just the entry that's doing it. We've just got to go back, have a look at it.

"It's the first time in a long time we've had these two boats together in the lighter range and, again, both boats proved they could win races."

Racing was scheduled to continue every day, conditions pending, until the winner of the America's Cup was found.
