Rugby Australia ceo Andy Marinos said: "I want to thank Premier Mark McGowan, Deputy Premier Roger Cook, Tourism Minister David Templeman, Sport Minister Tony Buti and the rest of Western Australian government, as well as Mike McKenna at Optus Stadium for their consistent and solution-orientated approach in working with us to secure the date in such a short time frame.

"It's fantastic on all fronts to have the opportunity for the Wallabies to play at this iconic stadium again, and entertain the Perth public that have embraced them so warmly over the past two weeks."

Details still to come on independent inquiry into cycling

Just who will lead the independent inquiry into cycling following the recent sudden death of Olympic cyclist Olivia Podmore remains undecided.

Podmore, 24, died in Cambridge earlier this month following a social media post in which she outlined the demands of high performance sport.

Last week Cycling New Zealand and High Performance Sport New Zealand announced an inquiry would be launched.

In a joint statement the two organisations said a draft terms of reference has been prepared but they're still discussing who will be involved in the inquiry.

"Cycling New Zealand and High Performance Sport New Zealand will now actively seek feedback from key stakeholder groups, including athletes and coaches, about the proposed engagement process for the Inquiry," the statement said.

"We understand it is crucial to take an open approach to the development of the ToR, (Terms of Reference) to ensure those central to the Inquiry have the opportunity to provide feedback and ultimately feel confident to engage in the Inquiry process."

Wood has scored from the spot as Burnley have beaten Newcastle 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out at St James' Park.

Their second round match had finished 0-0 at fulltime.

Fourteen goals have been scored in the other two of this morning's second round ties.

Southampton have won 8-0 at League Two side Newport County, while Arsenal have recorded their first win of the season in style, crushing Championship club West Bromwich Albion 6-0 at The Hawthorns.

Meanwhile, young New Zealand footballer Elijah Just has continued his goalscoring run in Denmark's first division since returning from the Tokyo Olympics.

Just has scored midway through the first half to help FC Helsingoer to a 1-0 win at HB Koege.

It is his third goal in as many league games.

He was set-up by Olympic teammate Callum McCowatt, who scored in Helsingoer's three previous league matches.

Kenin pulls out of New York's US Open

Grand slam champion Sofia Kenin has withdrawn from the upcoming U.S. Open after testing positive for COVID-19 multiple times despite being vaccinated, she said Wednesday.

Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open winner who was seeded fifth at the tournament in New York, adds her name to a long list of top players unable to compete including Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep.

"I am writing with disappointing news," Kenin said on Twitter.

"Recently, I tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately I am vaccinated and thus my symptoms have been fairly mild. However I have continued to test positive and thus will not be able to compete at the US Open next week.

"I plan to spend the next several weeks getting healthy and preparing to play well this fall. Thank you all for supporting me. I want to wish all the players the best of luck in New York."

The 22-year-old Kenin, who also goes by Sonya, is one of an impressive crop of young American women in the game, along with Jennifer Brady, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins.

U.S. Open main draw matches begin next week.

The Southern Steel have also announced Georgia Heffernan will return in 2022.

Heffernan sat out this season after suffering a serious knee injury in 2020.

She will join England international George Fisher and Saviour Tui in the Steel's shooting circle.

Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit, Sarahpheinna Woulf and Kate Burley are the three specialist defenders in their squad.

Tui and Burley have joined the Steel from the champion Northern Mystics.

India rolled for 78

England produced a stunning all-round display to take complete control of the third Test against India on the first day at Headingley.

In a complete turnaround from their miserable defeat in the second Test at Lord's, the home side dismissed India for only 78 and then serenely moved to 120-0, a lead of 42.

They were led by the peerless James Anderson, who claimed 3-6, including India captain Virat Kohli, as England exploited the seam movement on offer.

Craig Overton, in for the injured Mark Wood, also took three wickets, and both he and Sam Curran had the chance of a hat-trick after taking two wickets in two balls.

India lost their last seven wickets for 22 runs, at one stage losing four wickets for no runs in the space of six balls.

England's day was further improved by the 60 not out made by Haseeb Hameed, restored to open the batting in Test cricket for the first time since 2016.

With Rory Burns moving to an unbeaten 52, England's opening partnership passed India's total to leave the hosts in a perfect position to level the five-match series at 1-1.

Kane staying at Spurs

Tottenham striker Harry Kane said he'll stay at the club and be "100% focused on helping the team achieve success", ending weeks of speculation about a potential move to champions Manchester City.

"It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks," the England captain wrote on Twitter.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

The 28-year-old was a major target for Manchester City, with City manager Pep Guardiola earlier this month saying that it was up to Tottenham to make the transfer happen.

Kane, who signed a six-year contract at Tottenham in 2018, was keen on a new challenge but an initial bid from City -- reportedly worth 100 million pounds ($197 million) -- was not enough for Tottenham to let him go.

Tottenham, who have won both their league games so far, host Watford next Sunday.

PSG reject offer for Mbappe

Paris St Germain have rejected an offer from Real Madrid for France forward Kylian Mbappe, with the French club saying the offer was "not sufficient".

Spanish and French media reported on Tuesday that Real Madrid had made a 160-million-euro ($270-million) bid for the 22-year-old World Cup winner who scored 42 goals in all competitions for PSG last season and has reportedly said he wants to move to Spain.

Sporting Director Leonardo said that PSG, who have just signed Argentina forward Lionel Messi from Barcelona, did not plan to discuss the Mbappe matter again with Real Madrid and that if Mbappe wanted to leave he would have to do so on PSG's terms.

Leonardo would not confirm the figure of 160 million euro but said the bid was "around that".

Mbappe joined PSG from AS Monaco in 2017, on loan initially and then permanently a year later in a deal valued at 180 million euro.

Fifa wants EPL and LeLiga to reconsider releasing players

The English Premier League and Spanish LaLiga should release players for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month to "preserve and protect sporting integrity", FIFA president Gianni Infantino said.

The top flight leagues in England and Spain said on Tuesday they backed clubs refusing to make players available for qualifiers in countries where the players would have to quarantine on their return, particularly South America.

The Premier League said nearly 60 players were set to travel to 26 countries on Britain's "red list" while LaLiga said 25 players from 13 different clubs are affected with likely more to follow when Ecuador and Venezuela announce their squads.

"Many of the best players in the world compete in leagues in England and Spain, and we believe these countries also share the responsibility to preserve and protect the sporting integrity of competitions around the world."

England's strict quarantine rules would require players to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in the country, with the Premier League saying no exemption had been granted by government for soccer players.

Infantino said he had written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for support.

Roglic wins stage, but still trails overall.

Defending champion Primoz Roglic claimed victory on stage 11 of the Vuelta a Espana, but it wasn't enough for him to reclaim the overall lead.

The Jumbo-Visma rider, who surrendered the leader's red jersey yesterday after crashing, produced an emphatic attack on the final steep ramps of the 133.6-km stage from Antequera to Valdepenas de Jaen.

Odd Christian Eiking, who finished 11 seconds behind Roglic, remains in red, 58 seconds ahead of Guillaume Martin and one minute 56 seconds up on the Slovenian stage winner.

Thursday's Stage 12 sees the race go from Jaen to Cordoba, with a downhill finish meaning it could be primed for a breakaway victory.

Jamaican eyes world record

Sprint queen Elaine Thompson-Herah says she has set her sights on lowering the long-standing record for the women's 100 metres, believing it is now within reach.

The Jamaican won gold in both the 100m and 200m at the Tokyo Games in the last month, but made an even bigger statement at the weekend at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene where she ran the second-fastest 100m of all time in a blistering 10.54 seconds.

It edged her closer to Florence Griffith Joyner's long-deemed-untouchable 10.49 world record set at the 1988 U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, which could come under further threat when the Diamond League circuit continues in Lausanne tomorrow.

Thompson-Herah will reprise her rivalry with fellow Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, whom she beat into second place in Tokyo and in Oregon last weekend.

New Zealand shot putter Tom Walsh is also competing at the same meeting tomorrow.
