It is the first time Bangladesh has beaten New Zealand in T20's.

After deciding to bat first the Black Caps were bundled out for just 60 with captain Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls top scoring with 18.

It equals New Zealand's lowest score in T20 internationals.

At one stage the tourists were nine runs for four wickets and 49 for seven..... they were dismissed in the 17th over.

"Slightly disappointing with the start, we knew it was going to be tough but unfortunately we just kept losing wickets at crucial times," said Latham.

Pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets, while the Bangladeshi spinners did the rest of the damage on a wicket that was far from unplayable.

In reply the homeside reached their target in 15 overs with the loss of three wickets.

However they lost both openers for one before Shakib Al Hasan's 25 steadied the ship and Mushfiqur Rahim (16) and Mahmudullah (14) got them home.

Ajaz Patel, Cole McConchie and Rachin Ravindra picked up a wicket each.

"We'll take plenty of learnings from this, for us it's just about trying to find a way in these conditions, obviously it's completely different to back home so its trying to assess what a good score is on this sort of surface," said Latham.

Game two of the five match series is Friday night.
