Portugal top their group.

France were held to a 1-1 home draw by Bosnia after playing almost half the game with 10 men.

France remain unbeaten in four games and lead the group with eight points, four ahead of Ukraine.

Denmark beat Scotland 2-0 to keep the Danes top of their group with four wins out of four.

The Euro 2020 semi-finalists have scored 16 goals and conceded none in the campaign.

The Netherlands were forced to come from behind to draw 1-1 with Norway in an inauspicious start for new coach Louis van Gaal.

The result left the Netherlands, who have seven points from four matches, behind Turkey in the standings.

Kimi Raikkonen, the Finnish 'Iceman' who won the 2007 Formula One world championship for Ferrari, will retire at the end of the season after a record run in the sport.

The 41-year-old is currently racing for the Swiss-based Alfa Romeo team and his departure opens up a seat, with compatriot Valtteri Bottas strongly tipped to take it if he leaves Mercedes.

Raikkonen is the oldest driver on the starting grid and holds the all-time record for most race starts, with 341 so far from 344 grands prix attended.

Raikkonen, a blunt fan favourite whose love of racing is matched by his dislike of media duties and the corporate side of the sport, made his F1 debut in 2001 with Sauber, the team that now races as Alfa.

Raikkonen joined Ferrari in 2007 as replacement for seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher.

His title success remains the last championship for a Ferrari driver and came when the Finn pipped McLaren's then-rookie Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso by a single point after winning three of the final four races.

Raikkonen left the sport at the end of 2009 but returned in 2012 with Lotus, with whom he won two races before his second stint at Ferrari from 2014-2018.

His last win was at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, in 2018 and his contract was due to expire at the end of the year. He will be 42 in October.

Osaka through to third round

Defending champion Naomi Osaka advanced to the U.S. Open third round after Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic withdrew ahead of their second-round match due to illness.

The Japanese third seed and world number 145 Danilovic, who was competing in her first U.S. Open main draw, were scheduled to be the day's second match in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Osaka will face Canada's Leylah Fernandez or Estonian Kaia Kanepi in the third round.

Others to advance today include Simona Halep, Garbine Muguruza, Victoria Azarenka, Elise Mertens and Elina Svitolina, while men's 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov is out.

Roglic back in red

Reigning Vuelta a Espana champion Primoz Roglic has taken the leader's red jersey on this year's race with an emphatic solo win on stage 17.

Team Jumbo's Slovenian rider Primoz Roglic celebrates on the podium after winning the 2020 La Vuelta cycling tour of Spain at the end of the 18th and final stage, a 124,2-km race from the Zarzuela racecourse to central Madrid, on November 8, 2020.

Roglic, who broke away from the pack alongside Egan Bernal with 60 kilometres remaining, dropped the Colombian with 7.5km left to go solo up the climb and claim a third stage victory, 1:35 ahead of the chasers.

Bernal eventually finished the stage seventh after being caught by a chasing group, with Roglic's American team mate Sepp Kuss taking second spot.

The Slovenian race leader has a 2:22 advantage over second-placed Enric Mas. Odd Christian Eiking, who had been in red at the start of the day, crashed on a descent, finishing 9:20 back.

The race remains in the Asturian mountains on Thursday.

There are four stages left.

Australia run-machine Steve Smith is third in the latest official rankings, ahead of compatriot Marnus Labuschagne.

India opener Rohit Sharma completes the top five, overtaking his captain Kohli, who has had a subdued series in England.

Ravi Ashwin of India tops the test bowling rankings with New Zealand's Tim Southee second.

The 27-year-old was remanded in custody last week after appearing at Chester Magistrates' Court a day after being reportedly charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Mendy has not yet formally entered a plea, according to reports, but his lawyer said that the player has denied the allegations.

The charges against Mendy, who has been suspended by his club, are alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021.

The France international signed for City from Monaco in 2017 and has won three Premier League titles during his time in Manchester.

Swiss gym trainers quit

Trainers for the Swiss Gymnastics Federation's women's team have resigned en masse following an ethics investigation that upheld athletes' complaints of psychological abuse after a series of poor performances.

The ethics committee's report, which was presented to the STV's leadership on Aug. 27 and made public today, recommended cutting ties with the coaching staff.

"By mutual agreement, it was decided that the current coaching team would relinquish the leadership of training with immediate effect and be released from their duties," the federation said in a statement.

The committee's investigation found violations of the Swiss Olympic Ethics Charter during the period from 2016 to 2019 "and that in particular the mental and physical health of female athletes was not sufficiently protected".

The STV initiated the review in November after two athletes said they had faced harsh training conditions and disparaging comments about their eating habits and body weight.

Young Lynagh wants to fulfil a dream

Tom Lynagh, son of former Australia captain Michael, says he hopes his move to the Queensland Reds will help him fulfil his dream of playing for the Wallabies.

The 17-year-old, a first five like his World Cup-winning father, signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Reds in November. Born in Italy and raised in England, he is also eligible to play for both those countries.

"I have always dreamt of playing for Australia," he told Australian media. "I might not get the opportunity but it's just about the dream and the Queensland Reds seem like a good place to help me reach that.

"I like the brand of rugby that's played down here, felt it was my style of play."

Lynagh was previously at English side Harlequins and was part of the country's academy system before signing for the Brisbane club, while older brother Louis extended his stay in Twickenham.
