Chasing 203 to win in Mt Maunganui on Tuesday, New Zealand secured victory with more than 11 overs to spare.

Will Young led the way for the home side, hitting the winning runs with a boundary that also brought up his maiden ODI century.

The Central Districts batter finished 103 not out and shared in the key partnership of 162 for the second wicket with Henry Nicholls, who made 57.

Earlier, the Dutch team recovered from 45-5 to post 202 all out in the 50th and final over of their innings.

Another Stags player, debutant Blair Tickner was the standout for the Black Caps, picking up four wickets.

Opening bowler Kyle Jamieson chimed in with three wickets.

One of several New Zealand-based players in the visiting squad, Otago all-rounder Michael Rippon top-scored with an impressive innings of 67.

Captain Pieter Seelaar made a tidy 43, putting on 80 runs for the sixth wicket with Rippon after their side's early troubles.

Game two would be in Hamilton on Saturday.
