Phoenix snatch draw

Two Shane Smeltz penalties have enabled the Wellington Phoenix to snatch a 2-all draw with the Jets in their Australian Football A-League match in iewcastle.

The match was played in hot humind conditions and finished in a downpour with the champions stuill looking for their first home and the Phoenix yet to win away from home.

They created plenty of chances in the first half but didn't take the lead till early in the second when the All Whites striker Smeltz scored from the penalty spot after Vaughan Coveny was felled.

However the home side equalised quickly with a long range shot from their right back Tartek Elrich deflected past Mark Paston and they went ahead through Kaz Patafka only to concede the penalty late in the game.

It's the third draw for the Phoenix who have lost three games and won one.
