Latest - New Zealand rowers Tom Mackintosh and Matt Macdonald have won the men's pair title at the World Cup regatta in Poland.

Mackintosh and Macdonald, who were in the eight that won Olympic gold last year, were competing together for the first as a pair at this level.

They finished five second ahead of the Netherlands with the USA third.

The women's four Women's four of Phoebe Spoors, Beth Ross, Davina Waddy and Catherine Layburn, finished fifth in their final.

Matt Dunham won New Zealand's other gold medal in the men's lightweight single sculls over the weekend.

The New Zealand squad will next compete in the Henlry Royal Regatta before the next World Cup in Lucerne.

Venus beaten again

Michael Venus and Tim Puetz have been beaten in the doubles finaL at the Halle ATP tournament in Germany.

The thirds seeds have been beaten in tie break by top seeds Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Argentina's Horacio Zeballos.

It is the second straight week Venus and Puetz have lost a final after going down in Stuttgart.

The pair will contest Wimbledon next week.

Meanwhile Poland's Hubert Hurkacz showed his Wimbledon credentials, hammering world number one Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-4 to win the singles final in Halle.

Play was briefly halted during the final when a protestor ran onto the court and tried to tie herself to the net before being dragged away by security guards.

Usyk-Joshua rematch date set

Heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk will face Briton Anthony Joshua in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on August0 in a rematch of their London bout last year, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn's Matchroom stable announced on Sunday.

Ukraine's Usyk beat Joshua in front of a sell-out crowd in September last year to claim the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts but the 32-year-old will have a chance to win back his titles in a fight dubbed "Rage on the Red Sea".

Usyk, who is 19-0 with 13 knockout victories, said he had a mission to fulfil by retaining his crowns.

"With the help of the Lord, I'll complete my mission," the 35-year-old, whose preparation had been thrown into disarray due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, said.

Usyk returned to his homeland to join a territorial defence battalion following the invasion, which Moscow calls a "special military operation", to raise doubts about the rematch.

"The fight will be much bigger and more spectacular than the first," Usyk's promoter Alexander Krassyuk said.

"It is history in the making. Being a part of this event is a huge honour. Our country is now fighting for its heritage. Our mission is to expand its legacy. With the help of the Lord we will achieve this."

But Usyk could face a tough task against Joshua, who is 24-2 with 22 knockout victories.

Quartararo wins in Germany

Yamaha's reigning world MotoGP champion Fabio Quartararo won the German Grand Prix to extend his lead in the riders' standings, while his closest championship contender Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia finished fourth at the Sachsenring.

Frenchman Quartararo, who started second on the grid, stormed into the lead when the lights went out as pole sitter Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati dropped down to second.

The duo battled for the lead over the next three laps before the Ducati rider slipped and crashed, leaving Quartararo to cruise to the finish.

Quartararo's compatriot Johann Zarco of Pramac Racing briefly threatened to challenge him for the lead but ultimately settled for second place, while Ducati's Jack Miller capitalised on an Espargaro mistake late in the race to take third.

Quartararo now has 172 points after 10 races, 34 points ahead of Espargaro, while Zarco moved up to third to sit a further 27 points behind.

Holmes comes out

Britain's double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes has revealed she is gay, saying she was nervous and excited about coming out in a move that could have saved her years of heartache.

The 52-year-old, who won gold in the 800 and 1,500 metres at the 2004 Games in Athens, said she had known she was gay since she was 17.

"I needed to do this now, for me. It was my decision. I'm nervous about saying it. I feel like I'm going to explode with excitement," Holmes told the Sunday Mirror newspaper.

Holmes, a former army officer who left in 1997 to concentrate on athletics, said she had hidden her sexuality for fear of repercussion, because Britain did not allow gay, lesbian and bisexual people to serve in the military until 2000.

Her fears were alleviated when she contacted a military LGBTQ+ leader in 2020, who assured her that she would not face sanctions for coming out, she said.

"I was convinced throughout my whole life that if I admitted to being gay in the army I'd still be in trouble," Kelly said. "I felt like I could breathe again (after the call). One little call could have saved 28 years of heartache."

Series drawn

India and South Africa shared the honours in the Twenty20 International series after the deciding fifth and final match in Bengaluru was abandoned due to rain.

The touring side won the first two matches before India bounced back to level the series at 2-2 to send the series to an effective final on Sunday.

Rain forced the players off the field just as play was set to start at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi dismissed the hosts' opening batsmen to reduce India to 28-2 after the restart.

But it started pouring again with only 3.3 overs bowled and no more play was possible.
