Top NZ jockey seriously injured at Pakenham racecourse

Top Kiwi jockey Michael Walker is in intensive care with a concussion, after a racing accident in Victoria.

Walker was airlifted to hospital from Pakenham racecourse, outside of Melbourne, after the horse he was riding collapsed.

After having scans he has been cleared of spinal and internal injuries, a Victoria Jockeys Association spokesperson told RNZ.

"He has sustained a heavy concussion and remains stable," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Michael is currently in ICU at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne.
