The New Zealanders showed some nerves in damp conditions in the north of England as they spilled a number scoring opportunities in the opening 20 minutes.

However wing Madison Bartlett broke the drought in the 24th minute and the Kiwis then touched down another three times to take a 21-0 lead at half time.

The New Zealanders continued their domination of possession and territory in the second half with five more tries.

Coach Ricky Henry admits it was a slow start by his side.

"Give credit to France they came out and really put it on us, so we just had to be patient and hopefully get them at the back end of the game.

"We can take a lot out of it, travelling here 30 hours, we've had a few adversities over the last week so really pleased with the effort from the ladies but I know we can get better also."

The Kiwi Ferns lost some of their training gear and personal items in a fire at their training facility earlier this week.

"We've got a lot of improvement in us," said Henry.

Katelyn Vaha'akolo and Roxy Murdoch-Masila got two tries each.

Their next game is against the Cook Islands on Monday morning before taking on Australia.

Also this morning Australia beat the Cook Islands 74-0.

The Kiwi men's quarter-final against Fiji is Sunday morning in Hull.
