Hurricanes halfback Cam Roigard and winger Kini Naholo starred as their side ran in five tries to defeat the Waratahs 34-17 in the Super Rugby Pacific game in Wellington on Friday.

Roigard's passing, kicking and running as well as his two tries were a large part of why the Hurricanes were able to knock over a third Australian side this season.

Naholo on debut for the Hurricanes also scored once in each half to temporarily move the Wellington side to the top of the Super Rugby standings.

The Waratahs scored the first try of the match when Nemani Nadolo capitalised on a Hurricanes mistake to run over the line in 14th minute.

Roigard got his first six minutes later off a clever move off the scrum to score next to the posts.

The Waratahs hit back with a Max Jorgenson scoring in the corner with a big dive that needed the TMO to check he had stayed in the field of play.

Naholo's first try for his new franchise gave the Hurricanes a 17-12 edge at halftime.

The visitors fell away in the second half and with Roigard and Naholo bringing up their doubles within four minutes of each other the Waratahs could not find a way back into the game.
