Kane Williamson's Indian Premier League season could be finished after just a couple of overs into the new competition.
Playing for his new club and defending champions Gujarat Titans, Williamson injured his leg while in the field.
The extent of the injury, which happened while he was jumping in an attempt to catch a six on the boundary, is not yet known.
Williamson fell awkwardly and immediately clutched his knee.
He was later carried from the field.
Williamson had played for Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2015, before being picked up by Gujarat.
Gujurat went on to beat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets.
Black Caps batter Devon Conway scored one as Chennai made 178 for seven.
Gujarat reached their target in the last over with Shubman Gill top scoring with 63.
Mitchell Santner bowled four overs for 32 runs for Chennai.
Williamson's injury will cause some concern in the Black Caps camp with the World Cup in India in October.
The 32-year-old has only just recently overcome a persistent elbow problem.
