The Breakers worst fears were confirmed as star American import Anthony Lamb was confirmed to have ruptured his achilles tendon and requires surgery.

Lamb will be sidelined for at least nine months.

The former Golden State Warrior was pulled from court just eight minutes into the win over over Perth at the weekend.

The Breakers have four games left in the regular season, and need to win at least three to guarantee a play off spot.

Breakers coach Mody Maor said while he is gutted for Lamb, they have been in this position before and are still confident of reaching the post season.

"Heartbroken for Anthony, this is the first time he's stepped outside of the U.S. to play. There were a lot of great options ahead of him, but in today's basketball this is not the end of anything."

He said as soon as Lamb left the floor, the whole team knew it was bad.

"He will come back on the other side of it a better player."

Maor said the do or die situation changes nothing as they have treated every game of the season as a must win.

"I believe that with the roster we have now if we play at our best we can beat anyone."

He said he was worried about how Lamb's injury may affect the team before today's training.

"I saw a team that was really confident, very upbeat, a team who took it in stride and are ready to take care of business."

The Breakers meet the Illawarra Hawks at 7.30pm on Friday night.
