The T20 series between the White Ferns and Sri Lanka has ended 1-1 after the deciding game in Dunedin was abandoned due to rain.

Wet weather delayed the start of the game and players were forced from the field several times during New Zealand's batting innings as showers passed over the University Oval before the game was eventually called off.

Stand-in captain Suzie Bates opened the batting on her homeground scoring 31 off 28 balls in a solid partnership with Georgia Plimmer.

Plimmer chimed in with an unbeaten 46 in the 14 overs that were completed before the weather had the final say.

Sri Lanka won the opening game of the series by seven wickets and then New Zealand had a seven wicket win at Hagley Oval in Christchurch in the second match to set up the decider.

The White Ferns now have a quick turnaround with a three-match T20 series against Australia starting on Friday in Auckland.

New Zealand will welcome back Amelia Kerr for the Australia series after she missed the Sri Lanka series to play in Women's Premier League with the Mumbai Indians.
