A group of Maori tradesmen and women is preparing to pick up new construction contracts in Christchurch - but says just when the building boom will happen is the $64 million question.
Te Kaihanga Co-operative members are positioning themselves to win sub-contracting work from the large construction firms, Fletcher and Hawkins.
Co-operative deputy chair Barry Baker says the team is ready to take on big projects.
He says they want more substantial work, such as residential rebuilds.
Mr Baker says the group is made up of 20 members, who are carpenters, plasterers, bricklayers, drainlayers and painters and decorators.
