Māori King Kiingi Tuheitia's tangi: Iwi leaders to meet to discuss successor

At Tuurangawaewae the King's Council will meet with iwi leaders in private today to discuss who will succeed the Māori King, Kiingi Tuheitia.

Tens of thousands of mourners from throughout the country have been at Tuurangawaewae for the tangihanga of the Māori King, Tuheitia Paki (crowned Te Arikinui Kiingi Tuheitia).

He died died early on Friday at the age of 69 after heart surgery.

The King's successor will be announced on Thursday before Kiingi Tuheitia is buried on Taupiri maunga.
