Watch: Te Pati Māori film crew ejected from public gallery by Parliament security

4:49 pm on 10 April 2025

A livestream broadcast to Toitū Te Tiriti social media pages that set to broadcast from within Parliament was abruptly cut short after being supposedly barred from entering the gallery.

The livestream lasted only 13 minutes and began with a short kōrero from party co-leaders Debbie Ngārewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi.

It then cuts to footage from within the public gallery before what appears to be Parliament security escorting the camera person out into a hall.

In the video, Te Pāti Māori staffer Himiona Grace apologised to viewers for ending the stream and said the party thought they had permission to broadcast.

"We had permission to film the second reading of the Treaty Principles debate. We went through all the right processes but security have dragged me out of the public gallery - they're not having a bar of it."

Grace urged viewers to go to the Parliament website to view the debate instead.

"You won't get as much of an inside scoop, but, we do our best. This is what we deal with on a daily basis. Times are really heightened and security are on high alert and anyone who looks out of place is treated like they don't belong."
