The Council of Christian Social Services is encouraging Maori to make income inequality a general election issue.
Executive officer Trevor McGlinchey says the organisation's 'Closer Together Whakatata Mai' project, highlights the fact that one in three Maori children are living in poverty.
He says Maori have been consistently at the bottom of the income stream, which has led to more obesity and mental health issues and a greater susceptibility of children to disease.
Mr McGlinchey says addressing income inequality is paramount to ensuring Maori self determination and well being.
He says Maori voters should question all political candidates closely on what they intend doing to address the inequality issues.
