'Not due to a lack of action or interest'

The Police Commissioner says it's not through a lack of action or interest that the inquiry into a group of Auckland youths boasting online about sex with young girls has not progressed.

The police minister has ordered an investigation into the way the process has been handled. An assistant commissioner has been sent to Auckland to help with the investigation.

Commissioner Peter Marshall says police can't take it any further because "the three young girls, quite understandably don't want to make a formal complaint."

"It's in our DNA to try and put there young people before the court if in fact they are offenders in relation to the troubling activities we've heard about. We don't have the evidence."

Meanwhile, ANZ bank, and other companies have suspended their advertising on Radio Live, over comments made about the case.
