New Zealanders Lorde and Eleanor Catton have been named by The Washington Post as emerging dominant players in their chosen fields.
On its website, the paper lists 13 people who it says became dominant in their fields over the past year, and are well on their way to becoming household names.
Singer-songwriter Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, was noted for her single Royals, which was at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine weeks.
Catton is the youngest person ever to win the Man Booker Award, for her novel The Luminaries.
Others on the list are Pope Francis, the American whistleblower Edward Snowden, and the newest member of the Royal Family, Prince George.
