Four people have been charged with aggravated robbery after two German tourists were attacked in their tent in Whakatane early on Boxing Day.
They will appear in the Whakatane District Court on Friday.
Police are still looking for a fifth person.
The tourists are still in hospital. The woman has arm and facial injuries, while her companion has lost some teeth.
