Taurima decision may get review

The Labour Party's Tamaki Makaurau electorate committee has asked for a review of the decision not to let Shane Taurima stand in the electorate, Radio New Zealand reports.

The party's ruling council announced on Tuesday morning that Taurima's nomination could not proceed.

In a statement, the electorate committee said it was disappointed with that decision, and wanted Labour's council to review it.

It said it continued to support Taurima as a candidate and would be seeking further advice.

The decision was made by Labour's national council after Taurima was found to have used Television New Zealand resources for Labour Party campaigning.

Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell said Labour should take some responsibility for the situation Shane Taurima now finds himself in.
