The New Zealand cyclist Linda Villumsen says after missing out on past glory, gold is everything to her, following her women's individual road time trial win at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Danish-born Villumsen was the top seed for the event and started last and recorded the quickest time over the 30km course, finishing just over six seconds ahead of Englishwoman Emma Pooley.

Villumsen, who came in at 42:25.46, says the gold means more than any words can describe after four years spent working towards it.

The winner of New Zealand's first Commonwealth Games gymnastics medal in 16 years has emulated the feat his coach achieved in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur.

David Bishop, who has won a bronze medal in the men's floor routine in Glasgow, is coached by David Phillips who won the country's last Commonwealth gymnastics medal.

Bishop says at that time as a seven-year-old, he was being coached by Phillips and says he remembers being amazed and inspired by Phillips' success.

Bishop says he enjoyed being first up which meant he didn't have to worry about anyone else's score and he could then sit back and watch.

The New Zealand open para-triple lawn bowls team has won a silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 'para-triple' of Lynda Bennett, Barry Wynks and Mark Noble were beaten 13-11 by South Africa in the final.

New Zealand has a gold, silver and a bronze so far in the bowls from Glasgow.
