Tourists missing after boat sinking

9:23 am on 18 August 2014

Another 10 tourists and five Indonesians are still missing after a tour boat travelling between islands in eastern Indonesia sank.

Radio New Zealand is reporting that two New Zealanders were among 10 foreigners rescued, which included people from Britain, Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

The nationalities of the missing foreigners are not yet known.

The missing Indonesians were four boat crew members and a tour guide.

The boat is understood to have hit a reef en route from Lombok island to Komodo island, the home of the Komodo dragon, the world’s biggest lizard and a draw for tourists.

Tajudin Sam, who runs the tour company operating the boat, said it probably ran into stormy weather.
