A man allegedly tried to haul a woman from her car at gunpoint before shooting and wounding a police officer in a Hamilton supermarket carpark this morning.
The police are refusing to comment on the incident at this stage.
But Radio new Zealand’s reporter at the scene in Mill Street said the area was cordoned off, and it was understood a policeman had been shot in the foot after a pursuit.
Pak'nSave has confirmed an incident happened at 11.15am. The store is open and trading but its fuel site is cordoned off and is likely to remain closed for the rest of the day, a spokesperson said.
