In Scotland, people have been queuing up to vote on whether to split from Britain and restore independence.
More than four million people, or 97 per cent of the electorate, are registered to vote.
The BBC reports there have been long queues since the polls opened and a record turnout is predicted.
The rival sides were still working to try and win votes.

The “No” campaign said it had 80 volunteers working in every council ward out talking to voters, while the “Yes” campaign said it expected to have 20,000 volunteers out knocking on doors.
The polls are due to close at 9am today New Zealand time and the result should be known later in the afternoon.
