Police say an officer shot a man a number of times during a pursuit near Paeroa overnight, Radio New Zealand reports.
Waikato's acting superintendent Greg Nicholls said police were called to a domestic disturbance at a house in Kerepehi at 9.50pm.

He said the occupants left the property in a vehicle on State Highway 2 and that police were fired on, police shot at the man a number of times.
The man who police shot has been transferred to Waikato Hospital where he is in a stable condition. The female occupant was uninjured.
Investigations are underway.
A 5km stretch of State Highway 2 between Orchard East Road and Wharepoa Road will remain closed while police examine the scene.
