Ryder back in black

Jesse Ryder is back in a New Zealand cricket side, named in the A squad to play a one-day series in the UAE next month, Radio New Zealand reports.

Ryder returns to a New Zealand team for the first time since last summer's series against India.

Ryder hasn't been considered since then as Black Caps coach Mike Hesson was looking for an improvement in his off-field behaviour.

This year he has performed well for English county side Essex and was straight back into form on his return to Otago.

New Zealand Cricket General Manager National Selection Bruce Edgar says Ryder has been included in the squad to assess and evaluate his progress in an international touring environment.

He says it's an important step for Ryder but it is only a first step and they're anxious not to get ahead of themselves.
