Union fights to scrap zero hour contracts

9:39 am on 14 November 2014

A union that covers fast food workers is fighting to scrap so-called zero hours contracts, saying they are immoral and exploitative.

Chains such as McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Starbucks use the contracts, under which workers have to be available for work but have no hours guaranteed.

The contracts are part of Unite Union's collective agreement with the fast food firms.

Its national director Mike Treen tells Morning Report the union's priority was to get rid of them when it renegotiates the agreement next April.

The Wireless will have more on this next week.
