A third of Aotearoa’s young people are drinking perilous levels of alcohol Radio New Zealand reports.

The latest annual Health Survey shows the general health of kiwis is improving but major problems such as smoking, obesity remain with 18-24 year old bracket harbouring the most hazardous drinkers.

Men were twice as likely to have risky drinking patterns than women, and nearly a third of all Maori adults were unsafe drinkers.

Maori also have the highest current smoking rate (41 per cent smoking at least monthly) but smoking numbers in general have dropped slightly (20 per cent in 2006-2007 to 17 per cent in 2013-2014).

The report also says adults aged 25 to 34 were the least likely of all age groups to have visited a dentist in the past year.
