New Zealand are 22 without loss at stumps on day two of the second cricket Test and have a big day ahead of them in Wellington, trailing Sri Lanka by 113 runs.
The Black Caps began the day at the Basin Reserve with high hopes of a healthy first-innings lead, with Sri Lanka struggling at 78 for five in reply to New Zealand's 221.
But Kumar Sangakkara, who finished on 203, combined with Dinesh Chandamal to put on 130 for the sixth wicket, helping the tourists to 356 when they were bowled out after tea - a 135-run lead.
It was Sangakkara's 11th Test double century, putting him just one behind the legendary Sir Don Bradman, who sits at the top of the list with 12.
