On The Dial: Episode 9

8:19 am on 4 February 2015

In On The Dial this week, we talk housing and renting, water safety, and Music 101 heads home with Connan Mockasin.

It’s the time of year where almost everyone is looking for a new flat. The beginning of each year is a notoriously hard time to find accommodation. January is Trade Me’s busiest month with rental listings clocking an average of 24,000 hits a day. Mava Moayyed has been looking at the housing market, and she speaks to some young renters.

Nearly twenty people have already died in the water this year, despite decades of water safety education. We talk to Surf Lifesaving New Zealand’s Nick Mulcahy about why those messages aren’t getting through.

Having toured the world  showcasing his sophomore album Caramel, Connan Mockasin took to his family home in the small coastal village of Te Awanga for some much needed R’n’R. Music 101’s Zac Arnold travelled to see Mockasin on home turf and hear stories from friends and family.

On The Dial was produced by Megan Whelan with technical production by William Saunders with assistance from NZonAir. Our music was composed and performed by Eddie Johnston, and the cover image was made by Hadley Donaldson.
