The Lonesome Pine Specials: Over half way through their extensive 28-date tour of the country with Australian-based musician Archer, the Lonesome Pine Specials head home to Lyttleton tonight for one show at the Wunderbar. The band, made up of Hannah Harding (Aldous Harding), Flora Knight (The Eastern) and Ben Wooley (The Unfaithful Ways), released their folky self-titled album earlier in the year, and you can grab tickets to the show from Under The Radar. $1 Reserve: With the long weekend ahead of us, take some time to check out $1 Reserve, a web series of short films that look into the stories and lives of TradeMe buyers and the connections they make together. Written by Sophie Henderson and directed by Curtis Vowell, the husband/wife team behind Fantail, the series was produced by Candlelit Pictures and features 16 Actors’ Program students. There’s 10 episodes all up and you can watch them below.
Kerosene Comic Book x Tubertechno: With performances from Kobix, Lipgloss Slumberparty, Sorts, Totems, Career Girls and Kieran Tahir, local electronic music collectives Kerosene Comic Book and Tubertechno are teaming up for one show at Auckland’s Whammy Bar on Good Friday. Doors open at 8.30pm and it’s $5 on the door.
Shayne Carter: After playing a series of South Island shows last month, Dimmer/Straightjacket Fits’ Shayne P Carter has announced that he will also be playing three more gigs in Auckland and Wellington in the coming weeks. The first of those comes tonight with Carter performing solo at San Fran, playing what a press release describes as “his hits and non-hits!” Presumably, his set will also include tracks from the piano-based album, Offsider, the debut release under this own name which is on the way. Doors open to the all-seated affair at 7pm with Carter on stage at 8pm. Tickets are $20.
How Not To Be An Asshole: Dominic Hoey (Tourettes), Todd Williams (Louie Knuxx) and Dan Mawby have a new podcast, How Not To Be An Asshole, where they’re “interviewing people more interesting than themselves and asking the questions overlooked by the glorified gossip circle we call a media”. Each week sees a guest join them and recent highlights include a conversation with AUT senior lecturer Dr Pani Farvid on Tinder, 50 Shades of Grey, feminism “and why so many people are sexist dicks”, as well as their most recent episode featuring Labour MP Jacinda Adern. Flosstradamus: Chicago producers/DJs Flosstradamus, who have been touring throughout Australia, and head back there for more shows this weekend, play one New Zealand concert tonight in Auckland. Tickets are still available for their show at The Studio via Dash Tickets.
A Place To Bury Strangers: Featuring the talents of former D4 guitarist Dion Lunadon, New York-based band A Place To Bury Strangers recently released their fourth album,Transfixiation. They've also just dropped their new video for 'What We Don't See', which you can and should watch below, if you haven't already.
