Booty Club: “What better way to kill off NZ Music Month than an all ages gig at everyone's favourite elderly association”, asks the Facebook event page, which is a very valid point, in our opinion. Featuring sets from New Gum Sarn, Heroes For Sale, The Moots, Courtney Hate, Indotestudo and Open, Booty Club is a drug and alcohol free all-ages show taking place this Saturday at the Auckland Old Folks Association in Newton. Entry is five bucks.
Death and The Maiden: Dunedin trio Death and the Maiden, whose lineup includes members from Thought Creature and Bad Sav, have just released the video for their latest single ‘Dear ___’. The track has been floating around for awhile now and was also included on the band’s debut album, released back in March that takes cues “from the clubs of Berlin, and Dunedin’s well loved mid-winter raves”. The video takes an intriguing approach itself, directed by video installation artist Erica Sklenars, made of entirely of two single-shots involving bandmember Lucinda King – watch it below.
Antagonist AD: Local hardcore/metal act Antagonist A.D. are taking their new album Haunt Me As I Roam on the road this week, beginning with a show tonight at Whammy Bar in Auckland, followed by gigs in Hamilton and Christchurch over the following nights. Montezuma Revue: Dunedin act Montezuma Revue are “finally getting around to releasing their debut album Malta” and are celebrating the release with a show this Saturday at Christchurch’s Darkroom. They’ll be joined by Wurld Series, who we recently profiled for our Introducing feature, and Astro Children, who just released their great new single ‘Play It As It Lays’. Entry is free, which means there’s no excuse not to be there.
Dictaphone Blues: In support their latest single ‘Lance’s Tape’, lifted from the recent-ish released Mufti Day, Dictaphone Blues are currently on a tour of the country that sees them play Wellington’s Moon this Saturday. Emily Edrosa will also be opening the show, playing a solo set, and she alluded to rumours that it’d be the venue’s last show. Presale tickets are available from Under The Radar and fans in Dunedin and Christchurch can look forward to coming shows from Eddie Castelow and co. in the coming weeks.
Documentary Edge Festival: The Documentary Edge Festival is reaching its last few days in Auckland, where it’ll finish up on June 1 before beginning its run in Wellington from June 3- June 14. Find the full schedule of flicks and ticket information here.
Pikachunes: With his new album Allely due out this Saturday, Pikachunes has a bunch of shows lined up including one this Sunday at Whammy Bar (Monday is a Queen’s Birthday so there’ll be plenty of time to sleep it off in the morning). He’ll be supported by Rackets and Louie Knuxx. Tickets are $15. In the meantime, check out his latest single ‘PIOY’ below.
