Racing: Forming out of the ashes of shorecore band The Checks, Auckland-based act Racing have just released their new self-titled EP and play a show at the Kings Arms this Friday to celebrate the release. Tickets to see the rock n’ roll four-piece are $15 via Eventfinder ahead of the show, or $20 on the door and they’ll be supported by HUSK and The Conjurors on the night. Ahoribuzz: Local act Ahoribuzz continue their ‘Nation Of The State’ tour this week with shows in Wellington, Gisborne and Napier over the next few nights. For those unfamiliar, ex-Weta/Cairo Knife Fight guitarist Aaron Tokona is behind the project, releasing an EP, Into The Sunshine, just last month. Meanwhile, these shows are part of a tour that sees him playing over 50 dates around the country. Loud Ghost: Auckland trio Loud Ghost released their self-titled debut album last week, and they’ll celebrate with a show this Friday at Whammy Bar. They’ll be joined by New Gum Sarn, who have just released a new album of their own, and fellow Auckland act The Lowest Fidelity. Comedian Tim batt will also be MCing the evening. More info here.
State Of Mind: This Friday sees local drum and bass act State Of Mind playing Neck Of The Woods, where they’ll be joined Ghost and Optimus Gryme. Presales are available for $15+bf from Cosmic, and considering there’s over 1000 people that have RSVP’d on the event page, it might be a good idea to get in early.
How Not To Be An Asshole: Dominic Hoey (Tourettes), Todd Williams (Louie Knuxx) and Dan Mawby’s podcast is going live with a variety show tonight at Whammy Bar in Auckland. They’ll be recording a live podcast with three guests, and there’ll also be live sets from Emily Edrosa, Joel Paydirt, Jeremy Cosmo Potts and Mzwètwo. Entry is $10 and things kick off at 8pm.
Martin Phillipps and Graeme Downes: The Chills’ Martin Phillipps and The Verlaine’s Graeme Downes are getting together two shows this Friday at Dunedin’s Taste Merchants. According to the event page, the songwriters will “take a look at some of the lesser known and less often performed songs from their respective catalogues along with a classic or two thrown in for good measure.” Presales are available from Castle McAdam for $15+bf, or you can grab tickets for $20 on the door.
Emily Edrosa: Auckland act Emily Edrosa, the solo project of Street Chant’s Emily Littler, play this Saturday at K’ Rd’s Peach Pit. Performing as a three-piece, the band will be playing alongside support acts Soccer Practise and Oscar Dowling. Entry is $5 and things kick off at 9.30pm, and you can listen to Emily’s recently-released cover of Jonathan Richman’s ‘True Love Is Not Nice’, below.
