Sunken Seas: After dropping their new album Glass late last month, Sunken Seas are taking their new material on the road for a series of shows beginning this Saturday. The Auckland-based act play Valhalla in Wellington, before heading off to the other main centres over the next few weeks. Tickets and full details right here.
Maala: Until recently, the identity of local electro-pop singer Maala was kept secret. Unmasked and with a new self-titled EP just behind him, the singer is taking over Neck Of The Woods in Auckland this Friday. He’ll be supported by Mzwètwo on the evening and tickets are available from Eventfinder.
Boycrush: Auckland’s Alistair Deverick aka Boycrush has announced a four-date tour of the country to celebrate the release of his latest EP Girls On Top. Things kick off tonight at Golden Dawn ahead of a show tomorrow night at Moon with Chelsea Jade and Introverted Dancefloor. In the meantime, take a listen to Christoph El Truento’s remix of ‘Lush Life’.
The Fall: Last in New Zealand back in 2010, English post-punk act The Fall are returning to the country for shows in Auckland and Wellington this weekend. Fronted by Mark E. Smith, the band released their 31st album Sub-Lingual Tablet earlier this year, and will be bringing their new songs to the Powerstation on Saturday before closing out their tour at Bodega the following evening. Tickets are available from Under The Radar.
Dictaphone Blues and Paquin: Teaming up for a show this Saturday are Auckland acts Dictaphone Blues and Paquin. They’ll play Golden Dawn and you can expect Dictaphone Blues to be “playing with some new musical toys” while Paquin will be bringing “1.21 jizzawatts of modular synth power and enough dance-ability to drop everyone's undies”. Manawa Ora: Inter-arts mentoring initiative Nga Rangatahi Toa are once again bringing Manawa Ora to The Herald Theatre in Auckland. Teaming up musicians and actors with marginalised rangatahi, the show features plays, music and other performance pieces that were created by the teens and their mentors during a recent workshop. This year’s theme is ‘Hope For A Generation’, and after premiering last night, the show continues this evening and runs until Saturday. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
Lawrence Arabia: James Milne aka Lawrence Arabia is playing two solo shows this weekend at the Darkroom in Christchurch. Expect songs from his forthcoming album, which is due out early next year, “along with other oldies and lost gems”. Tickets to the Saturday performance have sold out already, but fans can get hold of tickets for the Sunday show through Under The Radar.
