Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we catch Christchurch band The River Jones.
Described by band member Aby Macilquham as “rock and roll music that gets a little weird”, Christchurch four-piece The River Jones fuse their jazz school influence with feedback drenched guitars, catchy hooks and psychedelic references.
“We don’t have an earthquake song… but maybe the frustration of living in Christchurch comes across in our sound a little bit,” says the band.
Since releasing their debut self-titled album in 2014, The River Jones have recently been working on new recordings. Kick Out The Jams caught up with them on their tour to Wellington earlier this year.
