Unknown Mortal Orchestra: It’s felt like a long time coming, but Unknown Mortal Orchestra finally touch down in New Zealand this weekend for a handful of shows around the country. Here off the back of their latest album, Multi-Love, the psych-pop outfit play St James Theatre this Saturday ahead of stops in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Support for all shows comes from Fazerdaze and you can scoop up tickets from Under The Radar.
Mono: Sure, it’s not technically the weekend yet but in case you hadn’t noticed, there’s plenty happening anyway. Instrumental post-rock act Mono are another one to add to the list, playing a one-off New Zealand show this evening at The Kings Arms. Tickets to see the Japan-based four-piece are available online through Under The Radar.
Bespin: Auckland psych-rock outfit Bespin are taking their debut EP Osiris on the road this weekend. The band, who took out the Critics’ Choice Prize as part of the NZ Music Awards, hit up Meow in Wellington on Saturday before heading South for shows in Christchurch and Dunedin over the next week. Entry is $10 on the door.
Summer In The Square: Auckland Live has teamed up with Golden Dawn’s Matthew Crawley to curate a line-up of artists, poets and musicians for this year’s Summer In The Square. The free events, which take place in Aotea Square, include upcoming performances from Rodney Fisher, Racing and The New Zealand Soul All Dayer. It’s under wraps for now, but there’s also a secret show taking place this Sunday as well. Here’s your guide to everything that’s happening.
Floating Points: Acclaimed UK electronic producer Sam Shepherd, better known as Floating Points, is in Auckland for a one-off show at Neck Of The Woods tonight. Though this one will be a DJ set, it’s worth taking some time to check out his recently-released debut album Elaenia, which has been attracting plenty of love from critics. The show won’t be one to miss.
AC/DC: It’s going to take five 747 airplanes seven trips between Melbourne and Auckland to bring AC/DC’s stage setup to New Zealand, which should go some way to explaining exactly how big this tour is going to be. The Australian rock legends are here to deliver two shows off the back of their latest album Rock Or Bust – the first of which is this Saturday at Westpac Stadium in Wellington. For those in Auckland, they’ll also be playing Tuesday night at Western Springs. You can find tickets here.
Ratatat: With the release of their fifth album Magnifique arriving a few months ago, Brooklyn duo Ratatat are back in New Zealand for a brief run of shows this week. After a stop in Wellington last night, the alt/electro/rock band will close things out at The Studio in Auckland this evening. Last minute tickets are available from Under The Radar.
