A showcase of some of the best new music releases from the past week.
Purple Pilgrims – ‘Forever’
New Zealand/Hong Kong raised duo Purple Pilgrims (Valentine and Clementine Nixon) are back with ‘Forever’, a new single that comes paired with a video self-directed by the two sisters. The track follows on from ‘Thru Evry Cell’, and it’s every bit as murky and lush as that previous release. Their full-length debut, Eternal Delight, is due out this Friday.
FKA twigs – ‘Good To Love’
Without warning, FKA twigs has returned with ‘Good To Love’, a pleading, vulnerable and slow-burning single set against a background of minimalist rumblings. If you missed it the first time, revisit Sam Wicks’ interview with her right here.
Race Banyon feat. Ty Dolla $ign – ‘What Are We Doing’
Wellington’s Eddie Johnston might be prepping for the release of his debut album under his Lontalius moniker, but it’s his work as Race Banyon which has had people talking this week. Produced with the help of DJ Dahi (who was behind the boards on ‘Worst Behaviour’) and featuring a no-nonsense appearance from Ty Dolla $ign, ‘What Are We Doing’ came out of a recent session spent at Red Bull Sound Select’s studios. It’s not one to miss.
Doprah – Wasting
Though they’ve released bits and pieces from it over the past couple of years, Doprah’s full-length album Wasting is finally here in finished form. Ghostwriters Collective
When we premiered Junica’s ‘Looking Out’ last November, Nik Brinkman told us that he’d been working on developing a new idea called the Ghostwriters Collective – an outlet for musicians to experiment with new territories and ideas without any external pressure from labels, management, and publishers. This week, Brinkman unveiled the website and the slick first song ‘Gold’, co-written by Julia Catherine Parr (formerly of Wellington electro-pop act Black City Lights). Look out for more every fortnight.
