Borderline Festival: After taking a year off, Borderline Music Festival is back on at Wine Cellar, Whammy Bar and Audio Foundation this weekend. The brief hiatus was due to changes in licensing regulations, which meant that it wouldn’t be able to run over Easter weekend as usual. No sweat, though, as it’s all going ahead this time with performances from Princess Chelsea, Street Chant, Womb, i.e. Crazy and a heap more. Tickets to the three-dayer are available in-store at Flying Out or online via Under The Radar.
Yoko-Zuna: “Progressive electronic hip hop” outfit Yoko-Zuna have just released Luminols, their new EP which features guest spots from Tom Scott, P-Digsss and Heavy. The four-piece, who call Auckland home, are also celebrating with a party at the Kings Arms this Friday alongside pals Miloux, LarzRanda and Lukan Rai$ey. The best part? SSC001: Secondskin collective are throwing their first event this Friday at the Audio Foundation. It’ll feature a Q+A with Evelyn Ida Morris Melbourne’s LISTEN collective and, as the organisers put it themselves, “this discussion is for anyone who wishes to see changes in the Auckland music community and/or has the power to do so”. Élan Vital: Emerging cold wave trio Élan Vital kick off a five-date tour this week, which will see them team up with Lady Lazer Light (aka Erica Sklenars). First up the band will perform tonight at the Darkroom before heading north for shows in Wellington and Auckland over the next couple of days. Get the specifics over on their Facebook page.
Impala: Friday night sees the opening of Impala, a new club you’ll find occupying the space that was formerly home to CODE in downtown Auckland. On the bill for the grand opening are DJs Dick Johnson, Quix, Katana, Beat Mafia and Daniel Farley, but keep in mind that RSVPing is essential. Here’s your first stop to find out more.
The Leers: Auckland alt/rock band The Leers, who released their debut album Are You Curious? a couple of months back, have lined up a show this Saturday with Host Club and Courtney Hate. It’s going down at the Old Folks Association (on Gundry Street, just off K Road) and it’s all-ages too, which means that there’ll be no drinking permitted in or around the venue.
