A fourth person has been arrested in relation to the alleged murders of Perth brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and US man Carter Rhoad on a surf trip in Mexico.
Prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez announced the arrest in a press conference, where she said a man from the town of Santo Tomás had been detained but did not provide further details.
Jake and Callum Robinson and Jack Carter Rhoad were surfing and camping in Baja California, south of the US border, but had failed to show up at their accommodation in the city of Rosarito.
The car the three travellers had been using was found, burnt out, on a ranch in the area.
Their bodies were later found in a 15m well a short distance from their campsite on 3 May, after they disappeared on 27 April.
Andrade Ramírez said the identity of the fourth body found in a well with the trio had also been established, but did not provide any more details.
Motivated to steal
Jesús Gerardo, also known as "El Kekas", appeared before a court in the Mexican city of Ensenada last month.
Prosecutors alleged at some point between late afternoon on 27 April and 28 April, Jesús Gerardo discovered the three men and was allegedly motivated to steal from them.
He is accused of murdering them, each with a single gunshot to the head, before moving their bodies - possibly with the help of others - 6km or 7km to dispose of them in a well.
Prosecutors say he torched the campsite, seemingly in an attempt to cover his tracks.
Jesús Gerardo's brother, Christian Alejandro, and then-romantic partner Ari Gisell, 23, were also arrested in relation to the disappearances.
Jesús Gerardo is the only one to be charged in relation to the disappearance of the Perth brothers.
Ari Gisell has turned on him and is now the prosecution's star witness. The case returns to court on 8 November.
The Baja California coast is a popular surfing destination but is also plagued by violent drug cartels.
