Nasa says it will announce a "major science finding" from its Martian exploration early tomorrow morning.
In a media release titled 'Mars mystery solved', the space agency confirmed that five high-profile scientists will stage a news conference in Washington at 4.30am (NZT) tomorrow, and stream it live on the internet.
Details can be found at the Nasa website here.
Australian astronomer Alan Duff said the panel was made up entirely of people who do experiments on water on Mars.
He expected the announcement to address claims dark streaks seen on Mars were caused by melting ice mounds below the planet's surface.
