A strong earthquake has jolted northern Chile, damaging buildings and roads near the epicentre.
Chile's seismology centre initially said it was a 6.1 magnitude earthquake, while the US Geological Survey recorded it at 6.2.
It hit at 3.30am local time near Chanara, about 800km north of capital city Santiago.
It collapsed part of the highway connecting the region to Santiago, and caused minor damage to some buildings in Chanaral's historic centre.
