The memoir by the former United States First Lady, Michelle Obama, has become the best-selling book released this year in the US - just two weeks after publication.

Penguin Random House has sold more than two million copies of Becoming in the US and Canada.

The publisher says the book is also a bestseller in many other countries including Australia and Britain.

The book is a window into the personal life of the Obamas, and their time at the White House, when Barack Obama served as the country's first black President.

Mrs Obama also criticises the current President, Donald Trump, for his championing of the "birther" theory that her husband was not born in the US, so was not a legitimate president.
